Venetian plaster is a lime and marble-dust finish, applied by hand in many fine layers and burnished with a steel trowel until the surface holds depth and light.

Originating in Renaissance Venice and refined over five centuries, Venetian plaster — also known as Marmorino, Stucco Veneziano or polished plaster — gives interior walls a depth no paint or wallpaper can match. Each finish is hand-applied in three to seven layers, with the trowel marks themselves becoming part of the surface.

A typical Venetian plastering Adelaide project takes between three and seven days per room — most of it in preparation and curing, the rest with a trowel in hand. Our process is unhurried by design.

A properly applied Venetian wall asks little of you. We provide a care card with every project, but the short version is below.

    A soft dry cloth. That is all most walls ever need.

    Marks and scuffs
    A damp microfibre with warm water. Avoid abrasives.

    We repair in-place. Most marks blend back with a single touch-up visit.

    Vinegar, citrus, ammonia and harsh detergents — lime is alkaline.

Pricing is per square metre and varies with finish, surface preparation and access. Marmorino sits in the most accessible range, polished plaster mid to upper, and Stucco Veneziano at the premium end. Every project is quoted on site after a free consultation — sample boards included.

A correctly applied Venetian wall is a lifetime finish. Lime carbonates over years, hardening to stone. The trade experience behind Protex stretches over a decade — walls applied years ago are still in original condition with no maintenance beyond dusting. It does not fade like paint — it deepens.

Microcement. It is the only finish in our range built for true wet areas — showers, bath surrounds, vanity tops and wet-room floors. Applied as a seamless, waterproof system with no grout lines and no joins. Venetian plaster suits dry bathroom walls only — vanity walls, powder rooms and feature walls outside the splash zone.

A single room takes between three and seven days, depending on finish and surface preparation. Most of that time is spent on substrate work and curing — the trowel work itself is the shortest part. We never compress curing time to suit a deadline.

It is different work. Paint coats a surface; Venetian becomes the surface. Venetian can be re-burnished and patched, though hand-applied finishes mean exact colour and texture matching on repairs cannot be guaranteed. It ages with grace, breathes with the room and holds light dynamically through the day. The cost is higher; the lifespan and presence are too.

Yes — with the right preparation. We assess the existing substrate and apply a bonding primer where needed. Heavily textured or failing surfaces may need to be skim-coated first. Every wall is inspected before quote.
