Transforming Adelaide Homes

House rendering
Adelaide, from tired brick
to finished facade.

Most Adelaide homes were built in brick, and most of them were never meant to stay that way. Render gives the exterior a single continuous surface: no joint pattern, no patched-in extensions, no mismatch between the original build and the addition out the back.

House rendering Adelaide wide is the work we are asked for most often, and it is the work we treat most carefully. A render is not a coating applied over a wall. It is a built-up mineral system, three to twenty millimetres thick, bonded to the substrate and finished by hand so the surface reads as architecture rather than coverage.

We have been hand-floating render across South Australia since 2013. Whole-of-house work for new residential builds, full re-renders over solid brick and brick veneer, second-storey additions brought into line with the original home, pool surrounds, courtyard walls and heritage facades. House rendering Adelaide work runs through the same in-house team that quoted it, with no subcontractors and no rotating crews.

The result is the exterior counterpart to our interior craft. Explore the wider rendering services we offer, or see the textured render finishes that give a facade tactile depth.

The Benefits

Why homeowners choose render.

House rendering Adelaide properties benefit from more than a change of appearance. A rendered wall behaves differently to a painted one: it holds heat, it sheds weather, and it repairs in place rather than being redone.

A continuous exterior

Render hides every brick joint, pulling extensions, additions and original walls into one surface with a single tone.

Weather protection

A sound system takes UV, driving rain, salt air and frost, adding a mineral layer between the weather and the wall.

Thermal mass

Rendered walls absorb and release heat slowly, which helps moderate interior temperatures through an Adelaide summer.

Long service life

A properly applied render lasts 20 to 30 years. The topcoat is refreshed at 10 to 15 years, but not the render itself.

Repairable in place

Hairline cracks are patched and re-floated by hand. Colour matching is close, though not guaranteed on every patch.

Substrate versatility

Solid brick, brick veneer, Hebel AAC, polystyrene, EPS and blue board all take render with the right system specified.

Our Rendering Process

From substrate to finished home.

Every house rendering Adelaide project follows the same five stages, start to finish. A single-storey home typically runs seven to fourteen days; two-storey and architect-designed builds run two to three weeks.

Most of that time is preparation and curing rather than application. Render needs to set fully between coats, and we do not rush it. The finish coat is always floated by hand, never sprayed.

Site visit and assessment

We assess substrate condition, exposure, wall height and site access, then advise honestly on which system suits the home and the budget. Quotes are obligation-free and returned within three working days.

Sampling

Sample boards are prepared in the proposed render and colour, then reviewed on site in the light your home actually sits in. Nothing is committed to until you have seen and touched the finish in person.

Substrate preparation

Brick is acid-washed and primed, movement points and panel joints are meshed, and scaffolding set where access requires it. This unseen work decides whether a render lasts for decades or just a few years.

Base coats

The scratch coat and level coat go on across two to three layers, each fully cured before the next is applied. This is the structure of the system and the stage at which its long service life is earned.

Finish and seal

A hand-floated finish coat is applied, with optional sand or texture, then sealed with a UV-stable topcoat or prepared for paint. The site is cleared and a full written care card is handed over to you.

Types of Render Finishes

Five systems for your home.

Different chemistries, different thicknesses, different substrates. Any house rendering Adelaide quote we issue specifies one of these six, matched to the wall it lives on rather than to whatever is fastest.

Flexible

Acrylic Render

Polymer-modified system, 3 to 5 mm thick. Pre-tinted and crack-resistant: the workhorse for new builds, Hebel and polystyrene.

Traditional

Cement Render

Sand, cement and lime applied 15 to 20 mm thick across two or three coats. Breathable, traditional, and painted after curing.

Crack-bridging

Polymer-Modified Render

Cement render with acrylic polymers and fibreglass mesh. The choice for movement-prone substrates and panel joints.

Decorative

Sand & Texture Finish

Fine, medium or coarse aggregate, trowelled or sponged for tactile depth. The texture layer that sits over a sound base coat.

Premium

Hand-Floated Render

Smooth, hand-trowelled finish with no spray and no roller. Our signature system for considered architectural facades.

Heritage

Lime Render

Traditional lime-mortar render for heritage homes and conservation work. Breathable systems in period-correct finishes.

Frequently Asked

Questions we hear.

House rendering Adelaide projects are priced per square metre and vary by system, substrate condition, wall height and site access. Acrylic render begins in the mid range; traditional cement render and hand-floated finishes sit higher because of the additional coats and time on the trowel. Scaffolding for two-storey work is scoped separately. Every project is quoted bespoke after a site visit.

Yes. Solid red brick, double brick and brick veneer all take render well once sound and clean. We acid-wash and prime first, mesh any movement points, then build the render up across two to three coats. It remains one of the most cost-effective ways to transform a tired brick exterior into a contemporary facade.

A properly applied render lasts 20 to 30 years before needing significant work. The render layer itself can last decades; the coloured topcoat or paint is typically refreshed at 10 to 15 years. Hairline cracks are repaired in place rather than redone, though hand-applied finishes mean exact colour and texture matching on patches cannot be guaranteed.

Both options exist. Acrylic render systems can be supplied pre-tinted in a wide colour range and applied as the final finish, with no separate paint coat needed. Traditional cement render is typically painted after curing with a high-quality acrylic exterior paint. Pre-coloured render lasts longer between refreshes; painted render gives more colour flexibility.

Yes. Lightweight cladding systems including Hebel AAC panels, polystyrene and EPS boards, and blue board fibre cement are rendered with acrylic or polymer-modified systems. We embed reinforcing mesh into the base coat to bridge panel joints, then finish with a hand-floated or textured topcoat, following each manufacturer’s detail specification exactly.
